SOS RED LINE - 033 222 000 - is a phone number for citizens of Sarajevo Canton and beyond. Operating around the clock, it enables reporting any form of domestic violence: physical, psychological, sexual or economic violence.
After reporting violence, if necessary anonymously, callers will receive relevant information on how to solve the problem of violence or prevent the violence, and who to turn to for further assistance.
If necessary, after the phone report, the police and relevant social welfare services can be included, and there is the possibility of placing the person in the women’s shelter.
The opening of this phone line was preceded by the signing of the Procedure Protocol between the Foundation of Local Democracy, the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo and the Cantonal Social Welfare Center.
In 2008, the Foundation of Local Democracy along with five other organizations signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Gender Center of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to establish a common SOS phone line 1265 for the territory of the Federation of BIH. The Foundation of Local Democracy, according to the regional rotation of calls to the SOS line for victims of domestic violence, takes over calls from the Sarajevo and the Bosnia-Podrinje cantons.
Operators who have completed a special educational program for working with victims of domestic violence operate the phone line.
Between 2004 and 2019, 10,917 calls were received on the SOS phone.
