The State of Bosnia and Herzegovina ratified the Istanbul Convention and, by Article 25, undertook obligations to support victims of sexual violence. Strengthening the capacity of service providers is an important activity in establishing an institutional system of protection and support for victims of sexual violence through cooperation between institutions and non-governmental organizations.
Within the framework of the project "Empower Her - Strengthening the Response to Sexual Violence in Bosnia and Herzegovina", the Foundation of Local Democracy, in partnership with members of the Safe Network and selected experts, implemented training for police officers and social work centers in six B&H cities (Bijeljina, Bihać, Mostar, Banja Luka, Doboj and Tuzla) in November 2024 to introduce them to best practices in the protection of victims of sexual violence.
By previously developed sectoral training modules within the "Right to a Life Free from Sexual Violence" program, training participants were provided with comprehensive information, theoretical knowledge, and practical tools, including case studies and simulations of real situations in cases of sexual violence. During these interactive trainings with practical exercises, more than 100 representatives of social work centers and the police improved their knowledge and skills for effective identification, cross-sectoral cooperation, and action in cases of sexual violence by international protection standards.
