Center for free legal aid for women in B&H

We are pleased to announce that

Foundation for local democracy has started realization of the project called Center for free legal aid for women in Bosnia and Herzegovina (aimed at victims of war, trafficking, domestic violence, sexual exploitation, single mothers and women living on the margins of society), which is financed by the Royal Netherlands Embassy and will be implemented throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After the Center for free legal aid for women in Canton Sarajevo (sponsored by USAID JSDP II) opened in October 2010, it was evident that there is a rising interest for this matter outside Sarajevo Canton as well. To further promote access to justice for the target group of women, as well as to promote interests of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, new Center was established with the purpose of providing free legal aid to the above mentioned groups. Planned activities within this project include, among others, education and training of other non-governmental agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina in providing legal aid to their users.

With this in mind, we would like to invite you to attend the opening of our two-day training aimed at the employees of the safe houses throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. Main aim is to strengthen local communities by training the staff members to provide legal aid, firstly, to women currently placed in the safe houses in BiH, but also other categories of women (victims of war, single mothers, etc.). Legal aid will be provided in the following fields: family relations rights, social rights, rights of the civilian victims of war, rights of families with children, health rights, work rights, employment and employment procurement.

The above-mentioned training will have participants from safe houses in Banja Luka, Mostar, Modrica, Tuzla, Bihac, Zenica (and the future safe house from Bijeljina), which represents all the safe houses currently existing on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project is also a contribution to the campaign for lobbying and adoption of the Law on free legal aid that Bosnia and Herzegovina is required to adopt according to the Constitution and ratified international documents.
