The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacities of associations that bring together women victims of war from the territory of BiH, so that they can become active advocates for their rights, participate in the promotion of justice and reconciliation, and by involving young people, contribute to the visibility of the problem as a prerequisite for building sustainable peace and stronger social cohesion
Time of implementation: 01.08.2025-01.08.2026.
The war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-1995) left deep consequences for society, and women survivors of sexual violence continue to face stigmatization, injustice and lack of support. In a disorganized system that does not recognize their specific needs, they do not have access to legal or psychological support, which is a prerequisite for them to build self-confidence and be active members of their families, and subsequently of society and community. On the other hand, young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina do not have enough knowledge, information and education about the importance of transitional justice, they are not involved in the culture of nurturing memories and are not able to stop the transgenerational transmission of trauma, which is a prerequisite for not repeating crimes, building peace and coexistence. This passivity leads to insufficient public awareness in the wider society, the absence of dialogue about past crimes, resulting in misunderstanding and lack of reconciliation between different ethnic groups.
The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacities of associations that bring together women victims of war from the territory of BiH, so that they can become active advocates for their rights, participate in the promotion of justice and reconciliation, and by involving young people, contribute to the visibility of the problem as a prerequisite for building sustainable peace and stronger social cohesion.
The project is funded by UNDP.
