"Greening the management of protected areas in SRB-BiH cross-border region"

We are pleased to announce that Foundation of local democracy in cooperation with Pokret gorana, implementing partner from Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, began implementation of the project called:

"Greening the management of protected areas in SRB-BiH cross-border region",

financed by the European Union through the first call for proposals under IPA cross-border cooperation programme between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Both implementing partners have their own national partners. Partner for Foundation for local democracy is the Ministry of environmental regulation and protection Canton Sarajevo and for “Pokret gorana” is the Institute for environmental protection of Serbia.

On December 07, 2010, agreement about co-financing and cooperation of the project "Greening the management of protected areas in SRB-BiH cross-border region"was signed between the Ministry of environmental regulation and protection Canton Sarajevo and Foundation of local democracy. Ministry pledged a 16.4% of its annual budget, or 15.312,68 EUR, for the support of this project over the period of 18 months (which is the duration of the project). Entire project budget totals 218.592,00 EUR, out of which 93.370,00 EUR is designated for the activities that will be implemented in BiH.   

Main goal of the project is to strengthen the role of civil society sector (NGO) in the integrated management and the development of eco-tourism in the protected cross-border areas of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a mean of local and regional self-sustainable. 

Through the new Action plan and recommendations for the integrated management and development of eco-tourism in the protected cross-border areas, and the exchange of experiences of both countries, best model for the management of protected areas will be offered which will ensure sustainable economic development. 

One of the key goals of the project is creation of the network of protected areas and non-governmental organizations that are working in the field of eco-tourism development and environmental protection in the cross-border area through exchange of experiences and implementation of the Action plan.
