We Participated in a Working Meeting Organized by m:tel in Sarajevo Support for Victims of Violence and Safe Houses Continues

Last Tuesday (May 28), the company m:tel organized a working meeting with representatives of safe houses in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the initiative of the company’s General Director, Jelena Trivan. The meeting was organized to discuss the everyday challenges faced by safe houses, as well as ways to provide stronger support for women victims of domestic violence. (Photo credit: m:tel)

On behalf of Foundation of Local Democracy, the meeting was attended by Executive Director Jasmina Mujezinović, who emphasized that violence against women in Bosnia and Herzegovina is reaching alarming proportions and highlighted the importance of timely reporting of violence.

- We are faced with the fact that almost every month there is a case of femicide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this is something we want to discuss today. It is important that we jointly find ways to act and raise awareness among our neighbors, friends, and society as a whole. I cannot understand that someone can sit in their home, hear what is happening next door, and still not call the police or an SOS hotline - said Jasmina Mujezinović.

m:tel Director Jelena Trivan pointed out that the company has been supporting the work of safe houses in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the past two years, but emphasized that the challenges they face are not solely financial in nature.

-It is important to find ways to make the problems faced by safe houses more visible in society. One of the proposals is to encourage other companies to develop support programs or partnerships with safe houses, so that women leaving violent environments can achieve economic independence and employment opportunities. In addition, all of us who have the capacity to influence change should support initiatives such as an alimony fund and additional accommodation capacities for children - said Jelena Trivan.

So far, m:tel has provided donations worth more than BAM 600,000 to safe houses across Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressing hope that their example will inspire other socially responsible companies in the country.

Foundation of Local Democracy Expresses its gratitude to m:TEL for its continued support to victims of violence and to the work of the Safe House in Sarajevo.
