The testing of the Draft Manual was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, municipal social services in Sarajevo Canton, Centers for Social Work of KS, as well as Cantonal Institutes for the provision of free legal aid, who shared their experiences in providing legal aid to women victims of war.
Testing of the Draft Manual on providing free legal aid to women victims of war, intended for officials in institutes/services for free legal aid, was held in Sarajevo last week. The initiative to create this manual was born after several years of providing free legal aid to women victims of war in order to present good practices in providing free legal aid and promote an approach based on a good recognition of the scope and form of rights that belong to survivors according to domestic and international regulations relevant to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The authors of the Handbook are Saliha Đuderija, Assistant Minister in the Human Rights Sector at the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Amer Homarac, legal advisor of the Local Democracy Foundation.
After testing, it was proposed to change the name of the manual so that it would not refer only to officials who provide support to women, and victims of war in free legal aid institutes, but to all institutional levels that could use this manual. It was also suggested that the manual should be devoted more to victims with achieved status, who are struggling to exercise their rights.
This draft manual was created within the project "Stand Up: For Greater Social Protection", which is implemented by the Foundation for Local Democracy from Sarajevo, with the financial support of AMICA e.V., Freiburg, the Baden-Württemberg Foundation and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany ( BMZ). It is expected that the manual will soon be finalized, after which its distribution will begin with the implementation of five workshops in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
